Three locals try out for world junior team

Three Minnesotans were among the 27 selected to the United States' world junior championships preliminary roster Tuesday.

Gophers freshmen defenseman Mike Reilly (Chanhassen) and Brady Skjei (Lakeville) and Notre Dame freshman Mario Lucia (Wayzata) will attend training camp in Tarrytown, N.Y. on Dec. 16-18.

The final roster will be announced Dec. 23. The tournament will be in Ufa, Russia, on Dec. 26-Jan. 5.

Dixon, Harms named to all-region teamTwo Gophers -- junior middle blocker Tori Dixon (Burnsville) and senior opposite hitter Katherine Harms (Albertville) -- were named to the Mideast All-Region team, announced by the America Volleyball Coaches Association. Minnesota (26-7) will face Purdue (23-10) in an NCAA regional semifinal in West Lafayette, Ind., at 6 p.m. Friday.
