Three University of Minnesota basketball commitments will sign their National Letters of Intent to play for the Gophers starting in 2016-17 this week, which marks the start of the fall signing period.
Minnesotans Amir Coffey and Michael Hurt will each sign tomorrow, the first day recruits can pen the letters. Coffey will sign at the Lindbergh Center at Hopkins High School at 12:45 surrounded by family and schoolmates and Hurt will do the same at 7:30 a.m. at John Marshall in Rochester. Arkansas forward Eric Curry, meanwhile, will wait until Friday.
The fall signing period extends until Nov. 18.
The three recruits make up Gophers coach Richard Pitino's most lauded recruiting class in his tenure at Minnesota. Coffey, a 6-7 combo guard who is ranked 33rd nationally by ESPN, was Pitino's top target and is a potential program changer for Minnesota. The Gophers beat out the likes of Arizona, Michigan State and Wisconsin for the four-star prospect. The 6-7, 195-pound Curry, one of Coffey's close friends, brings more talent to a thin power-forward spot and will stretch defenses in Pitino's system. Hurt, who committed last January, provides extra depth at the wing.
Assistant Ben Johnson was the lead recruiter on all three.
Minnesota does not have any scholarships remaining for 2016.
