A rite of spring, the designer showcase home, has been pushed back to October this year. But it promises to be worth the wait because it's a huge, brand-new house on Lake Minnetonka in Orono.

At 11,000 square feet, this year's house, built by John Kraemer & Sons, will offer a massive canvas for the two dozen interior designers who are taking part in the event, presented by ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) MN and Mpls.St.Paul magazine.

The lot on Bohns Point sold for $2.875 million in 2015, according to Hennepin County records. The site's spectacular views drove the design for the house, according to Mike Sharratt, architect/owner of Sharratt Design & Co., Excelsior.

"You can see the lake from every room," Sharratt said. The exterior has some traditional elements, including French chateau influences. But instead of formal rooms, the interior boasts a contemporary, open floor plan. Other highlights of the six-bedroom house include a roof deck offering 360-degree views, a two-story great room with a groin-vault ceiling and an indoor sport court.
