The Voltage afterglow

For the Minnesota Star Tribune
April 17, 2008 at 8:00PM

Even though the Voltage Fashion Amplified 2008 show is over, there are at least 20 events for the companion MN Fashion Weekend. During this fashion-athon, you can shop at Cliché, Design Collective and ROBOTLove or at any number of trunk shows and open-studio events. See the full schedule at www.voltagefashionamplified.com. Not quite pumped for a 48-hour style sprint? Here are our top five picks.

1. Band Bash

MC/VL, Dance Band and Mood Swings have all participated in Voltage runway shows and all of the groups are fashionable in both music and attire. Coincidence? Decide for yourself at this multiband gig. (10 p.m. today, 21-plus, $5 cover. Stasiu's Place, 2500 University Av. NE., Mpls.)

2. FASHION RIDE

Pimp your two-wheeler and join Ruby3 designer Anna Lee for a leisurely 5-mile bicycle tour. Lee's new limited-edition line targets "ladies who bike in skirts." It begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at Robot Love (2648 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls.) and arrives at Red Stag SupperClub just in time for the MN Fashion Networking Party, to which noncyclists are also invited (3:30 to 5:30 p.m., 509 1st Av. NE., Mpls.).

3. RUNWAY HAIRSTYLES

Jesse Pool, one of Voltage's hairstylists and a senior stylist at Olive salon, will give free updos at Cliché. With a Pool-sculpted coif, you'll be ready for a night of more events. (6-8 p.m. Sat., Cliché, 2403 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls., 612-870-0420. Appointments recommended. While hairstyles are free, tips are appreciated.)

4. RA'MON-LAWRENCE fashion show

Voltage alum Ra'mon Lawrence A. Coleman will show his spring collection. Inspired by painter Jan Vermeer, photojournalist Erwin Olaf and Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis," Coleman calls his show "Eluded Love." (7 p.m., Sat., Soo Visual Arts Center, 2640 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls, 612-871-2263. $15-$25. Open bar.)

5. CONNOISSEUR

At last year's Voltage, HyperLush shocked the crowd with a segment of stomping models in new-age tribal gear. For 2008, the design trio of Eric Carlson, Aaron Anderson and Crystal Quinn will present their latest sure-to-entertain fashion performance. Artistic collaborations YouWorkForThem and Alphasuede visuals also will debut fresh video works. (9 p.m.-1 a.m. Sat., 21-plus, $10, Suburban World Theatre, 3022 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. hypepromotion.com.)
