pick of the week: An astute reader pointed out that the Monday Outlook has been recommending a lot of outdoor activities lately. Yeah; it's called summer in Minnesota, folks, when enjoying being outside is what we do. And here's another great opportunity: the return of Como Park Zoo & Conservatory's Groovin' in the Garden, a series of free Wednesday evening concerts on the lawn outside the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory. Depending on your energy level, you can bring your dancing shoes to join in the music or a blanket to settle down on the grass. The two-hour shows start at 6 p.m. This week's tunes will be provided by the eight-piece ska band Umbrella Bed. (comozooconservatory.org)
Looking Back: Sunday marks the 70th anniversary of publication in Amsterdam of the book "The Annex: Diary Notes 14 June 1942–1 August 1944." When it was translated to English five years later, it also got a more memorable title: "The Diary of Anne Frank."
Day by day: Wednesday is National Selfie Day, on which people are encouraged to use their smartphones to take pictures of themselves. Or, for teenagers, it'll be just another day.
