The 32-year-old son of Hollywood icon Rob Reiner was arrested on suspicion of murder and held without bail Monday in the stabbing deaths of his parents in their Los Angeles home, authorities said.
The case will be given to prosecutors on Tuesday as they consider formal charges against Nick Reiner, who was taken into custody hours after Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner were found dead.
Nick Reiner has spoken publicly of his struggles with addiction and homelessness. He and his father collaborated on a semi-autobiographical 2016 film, ''Being Charlie,'' that included elements of their relationship and experience.
Reiner, the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, had long been one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood whose work included some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and '90s, including ''This Is Spinal Tap,'' ''A Few Good Men,'' ''When Harry Met Sally'' and ''The Princess Bride.'' Reiner's death led to an outpouring of grief from Hollywood and beyond.

The killings shatter Reiner family's legacy
Until Sunday's shocking double killings, few families seemed further from the dark side of life than the Reiners.
For decades, Rob Reiner and his father, Carl, had embodied a gentle, hopeful spirit in American culture, whether Dick Van Dyke's lovable antics on the show named for him and created by Carl, or the openly sentimental ending to Rob's ''When Harry Met Sally…'', now held up as the kind of romantic comedy they don't seem to make anymore. Carl Reiner would call his son his favorite director, while Rob would recall being so awed by his father that he wanted to change his first name to Carl.
