'Complicated' rationale The middle-aged romance "It's Complicated" earned an R rating, and not because Alec Baldwin gets naked. The MPAA slapped on the restrictive rating, despite an appeal from Universal Studios, for "pot smoking with no bad consequences." As opposed to the many PG-13-rated films in which murder and other assorted crimes are committed, with many bad consequences.
