Long, short of it Peter Jackson is making news with his "Lord of the Rings" films again. The Oscar-winning blockbusters are reportedly coming to Blu-ray in April, but only in their theatrical versions. Why? The director supposedly wants to hold back the extended versions, which are expected to hit the high-def format in time to help promote the 2011 release of "The Hobbit," until he has more time to put together spiffier Blu-ray versions of them, according to the Digital Bits website. Or he and New Line just want to make as much as possible by hitting up fan boys twice.

The final reel Speaking of "The Hobbit," online rumors that Tobey Maguire will play Bilbo Baggins in the Guillermo Del Toro-directed film were running so wild that the actor's publicist leaped forward to say they are false. ... David O. Russell ("Three Kings") has reportedly been pegged to direct the Jane Austen mash-up "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies." ... Mel Gibson's next directorial effort will be a Vikings film starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
