Roots of steel at the arboretum Beginning Saturday, 16 root-inspired massive steel sculptures by artist Steve Tobin will rise among the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's trees and gardens. The "Steelroots: Touching Earth & Sky" exhibit features a pair of bronze sculptures titled "Romeo and Juliet," metal pine cones and child-focused 5-foot-tall shapes. Opening week events include "Meet the Artist" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, an artist-led tour at 1 p.m. Saturday and other activities from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. You also can pick up gardening tips at a Plant Info Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. "Steelroots" will be on display through Jan. 2012.
