The dirt: Holidays at the Arboretum

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is "Making Spirits Bright" with scores of events throughout the holiday season. Visitors will be greeted by a 20-foot poinsettia tree decorated with whimsical seed sculptures in holiday themes. An array of live concerts, play performances and children's storytimes are scheduled at various times and dates. Kids can visit Santa and have their photo taken on weekends from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the arboretum's candy-themed restaurant. "Making Spirits Bright" begins Friday and continues through Dec. 31. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is at 3675 Arboretum Dr., Chaska. Gertens get-together Get tips on fashioning a spruce top container and holiday decorating at Gertens "Girls Night Out" from 5 to 9 p.m. next Wednesday, 5500 Blaine Ave, Inver Grove Heights.
