Once the gardening season begins in earnest, you won't have the time to spend a day indoors, even if it is to learn more about native plants, growing vegetables or creating a butterfly garden. That's why the popular daylong affairs are being held across the metro area now.
This Saturday, the Rice County Horticultural Day will feature sessions on winter seed sowing outdoors, growing dahlias and myths and facts about organic gardening. The Garden Fever event, sponsored by the Carver-Scott County master gardeners, will take on the topics of growing food organically and stretching your garden dollar.
Next Saturday, the Westonka Horticulture Day will offer 16 workshops on subjects such as growing vegetables at home, emerald ash borers and other pests, and creating curb appeal. And the Community Garden Spring Resource Fair will help wannabe gardeners dig in and grow their own food.
