Minnesota's immigration court has received 285 deportation cases of unaccompanied children since the August launch of a special priority docket (out of 29,500 such cases nationally). Most were closed temporarily as attorneys applied for asylum or for other relief. The Chicago Asylum office, which covers 15 states, has one of the lowest approval rates for unaccompanied minors nationwide.
Family members and a lawyer say they have been blocked from access to the bedside of Bonfilia Sanchez Dominguez, while her husband was detained and shipped to Texas within 24 hours.
