The big snow is melting, but we'll likely see more

The thing about the weather: Everyone has an opinion, everyone has a story. At MSP on Saturday, Matt explained how happy he was to have moved his family back to Minnesota from Tucson, Ariz.

Was it tough reacclimating to cold and snow? He looked at me like I had horns. "I couldn't let my kids out to play in the yard, for fear of rattlesnakes, tarantulas and scorpions! Gila monster lizards don't let go unless you drown them in water," he said, shaking his head. Suddenly the slush and cold didn't feel quite so bad.

Last week was snowiest of the winter; this week we melt much of that snow as the mercury flirts with 40 degrees. A southern storm may brush southeastern Minnesota and the Twin Cities with a couple of slushy inches on Thursday. Long-range models show a good chance of more significant snow next Monday, but it's too early for specifics.

The moisture is welcome, but as we sail into March, more precipitation will fall as a mix or even all-rain. Spring river flooding risk? I'll delve into risk factors tomorrow.
