In case you missed Ozzie Guillen's excellent meltdown last night, feel free to check out the video right here (screen grab from the same spot). The reaction from catcher Geovany Soto? Priceless.

Not so priceless? The outright beligerence of the White Sox announcers in asserting the ball was foul. From what we know of baseball rules -- and please do correct us if we're wrong because that rule book is thicker than a good steak -- every part of every base, including home plate, is fair territory. As such, when you watch the video, you see the ball spinning directly back over the middle of the plate from one angle. Then you see the side angle, and the ball rolls back to a spot that appears to be right around the point of home plate -- fair, yes? -- before Soto grabs it.

In any event, if we understand the rule correctly, it was fair or foul by a matter of an inch. It was not, as the announcers (and Ozzie, who was pointing at least a foot behind the plate) asserted, clearly a foul ball. More likely, it was a fair ball.

Announcers wrong. Ozzie ejected. White Sox lose. Everyone's happy. Still those guys make our blood boil.

Paying players has improved college football, as shown by the Indiana-Miami (Fla.) title game matchup. The freedom to transfer is part of a more equitable system.
