A Minneapolis teenager shot more than four years ago outside a south Minneapolis apartment building has died due to complications from his injuries, authorities said on Wednesday.
Victor A. Rosenbloom Jr. died on Friday at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. He was 20. His death was ruled a homicide.
Rosenbloom, 16 at the time, was shot on Oct. 16, 2006, in the 2200 block of Elliot Avenue S.
About eight months later, Frankie Y. Tyson, then 23, was found guilty of first-degree aggravated assault and sentenced to more than eight years in prison. With time served and good-behavior credit, the Minneapolis man is scheduled to be released from Stillwater prison in July 2012.
County attorney's office spokesman Santo Cruz said that the case is under review in light of Rosenbloom's death. He declined to elaborate. Any effort to retry Tyson in the shooting would run up against the legal hurdle meant to prevent someone from being tried twice for the same crime.
Tyson's criminal history in Minnesota includes felony convictions for first-degree aggravated robbery in 2003 and drug possession in 2005. At the time of the shooting, authorities had described him as a documented gang member.
