Targeting designersTarget's designer collections -- from Rodarte to Zac Posen -- have been hot fashion commodities. This fall's clothing from Tucker by Gaby Basora, handbags by Mulberry and plates and home accessories by John Derian are no exception. What's news is that they'll be offered online -- and on sale -- through Gilt.com. The members-only site (you can join through style.target.com) offers high-end merchandise from designers such as Rachel Roy, Calvin Klein and BCBG at significant discounts.
The Target Designer Preview will feature the trio of fall collections starting at 11 a.m. on Friday for 36 hours or while supplies last. The items won't be in Target stores until next month, so log on to be the first on your block with the new Targeted look.
Drive-by discountsOne store owner is trying to make sure that teens get the message about texting and driving. Janet Polach of Zelaz, a teen and tween clothing and accessories store in Excelsior, is launching "Hang Up and Drive." Starting Saturday, girls 15 and older and their parents can sign a pledge that commits them to stay off the phone when behind the wheel -- no texting, talking, checking messages, dialing or Web surfing.
Teens and parents who sign will receive a 5 percent discount card, good every time they shop at Zelaz through the end of the year. There's also a progressive sale on Sunday only (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Spend $100 or less and get 5 percent off, spend $200 and get 10 percent off, spend more than $200 and get 20 percent off.
