Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is clear of potential reckless driving charges following an investigation into a fatal car crash last month.
Onondaga County (N.Y.) District Attorney William Fitzpatrick declined to file charges against Boeheim in the Feb. 20 accident in which he struck and killed 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez.
"After a careful review of the facts and circumstances of this case, including the thorough and meticulous accident reconstruction performed by experienced members of the Syracuse Police Department's Traffic Division, I concur with their findings that this was a tragic accident," Fitzpatrick said in a report.
Jimenez was a passenger in a disabled car in the center lane of a dark highway, according to the same report. The car hit a patch of ice and spun out into a guard rail before the accident. Jimenez, the driver and two other passengers got out and stood next to the car.
Boeheim was driving home from dinner after Syracuse's win over Louisville when he accidentally hit Jimenez, immediately stopping his car and calling 911. He told police that he noticed the car had no lights and tried to avoid it.
Both drivers had been going more than 60 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone, but authorities agreed it was not the primary reason for the accident that caused Jimenez's death. Boeheim had also slowed to 54 mph when he hit Jimenez.
Wade mum on report
LSU coach Will Wade is declining comment on a Yahoo report detailing a phone conversation recorded by the FBI in which Wade discusses his efforts to lure a recruit to the Tigers.
The report says the FBI recording is of a conversation with Christian Dawkins, who is one of several people convicted in October of conspiracy to commit wire fraud for funneling illegal payments to families of recruits to Louisville, Kansas and North Carolina State.
