A 20-year-old man has died, apparently from drowning while swimming in the St. Croix River north of the Twin Cities, authorities said.
Rico Marice Davis was swimming in the river midafternoon Tuesday about 3 miles northwest of Nevers Dam and had “trouble staying above water,” read a statement from the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office.
Efforts by friends to get Davis out of the 8-foot-deep section of the river and into shallow water succeeded, but he was unresponsive, the Sheriff’s Office added. Authorities said the friends tried to resuscitate him until emergency responders could take over.
The Sheriff’s Office said Davis lived in rural Chisago County. State records also show that he lived in Burnsville recently.
