Sweep puts U in WCHA semifinals

Amanda Kessel scored in the third period Saturday, propelling the Gophers women's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Ohio State at Ridder Arena and into the WCHA semifinals next weekend.

The Gophers (25-8-2) swept the best-of-three series.

The league semifinals will be Friday, the championship Saturday, all at Ridder Arena.

Sarah Erickson got the Gophers started when she scored her 100th career point at 10:48 in the first period.

The Gophers made it 2-0 when Sarah Davis scored her 10th goal of the season at 11:54.

Ohio State (14-19-3) tied it with a goal in the second period by Paige Semenza and another in the third, by Shannon Reilly.

Noora Raty collected her 24th win of the season, tying the school record set by Jody Horak in 2004-05.
