Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa each had a power-play goal and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-0 on Sunday night.
Toews got his first goal of the season; the Chicago captain had just three assists in the Blackhawks' first eight games. Hossa scored into an empty net with 1:10 remaining. Hossa was honored in a pregame ceremony for becoming the 44th player with 500 goals, a milestone he reached Oct. 18.
The Blackhawks, for the first time in nine games, didn't allow a power-play goal.
The Kings were blanked for the second straight game, leaving coach Darryl Sutter stuck on 599 wins.
N.Y. Islanders 5, Toronto 1: Brock Nelson and Shane Prince each had a goal and an assist and Tomas Greiss stopped 33 shots for the Islanders, while Toronto lost its sixth straight on the road. After Jake Gardiner scored 50 seconds into the third to pull the Maple Leafs to 2-1, Prince and Nelson scored 2:39 apart.
Philadelphia 4, Carolina 3: Brandon Manning scored the tiebreaking shorthanded goal early in the third period for the Flyers in Raleigh, N.C. Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist, giving him points in a league-high nine straight games.
Florida 5, Detroit 2: The Panthers' Colton Sceviour scored three goals — one at even strength, one on the power play and one shorthanded — for his first career hat trick, and added an assist. Florida scored three goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead. The Red Wings' Peter Mrazek stopped six of the 10 shots before being replaced by Jimmy Howard in the period.
Buffalo 3, Winnipeg 1: Kyle Okposo scored twice in the first two periods of the Sabres' victory in Winnipeg.
