Hurricanes topple Blackhawks

– Justin Faulk and Victor Rask scored goals for the Carolina Hurricanes in a 2-1 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night.

Chicago's Brent Seabrook spoiled backup goalie Eddie Lack's shutout bid with 3 seconds left and Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford on the bench for an extra attacker. Lack made 35 saves. Lack wasn't consistently tested until the Blackhawks outshot Carolina 19-9 in the third period. No. 1 goalie Cam Ward got the night off while the Hurricanes played on the second night in a row.

Faulk scored his second even-strength goal of the season after netting his first on Saturday night in the Hurricanes' 3-1 win over New Jersey. The Carolina defenseman leads the NHL with 12 power-play goals and is tied for the team lead with 14 goals overall.


•SPLITSVILLE: Host Dallas gained a split in its home-and-home back-to-back series with St. Louis with a 3-0 victory. Kari Lehtonen posted his 33rd career shutout and Jamie Benn scored his NHL-best 23rd goal. The Stars have a league-high 57 points; Dallas and Washington are the only teams that have not lost consecutive games this season.

•SENATORS STOP BRUINS: Craig Anderson stopped 38 shots for host Ottawa in a 3-1 victory over Bostoin, which has lost three in a row. David Krejci had the Bruins' goal but suffered an undisclosed injury and did not play the third period.

•FIRST FOR FLORIDA: Aleksander Barkov had a pair of goals as the host Florida Panthers took over the top spot in the Atlantic Division with a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.

•WINTER WONDERS: Tyler Bozak and Michael Grabner scored 1:40 apart in the second period to lead the Maple Leafs to a 3-1 victory over the host New York Islanders .After going 1-7-2 in October, the Leafs are 12-7-5 in November and December. Nikolay Kulemin scored New York's goal, his third of the season and first since Oct. 20.

•NOTES: Sabres forward Evander Kane is the subject of a sex offense investigation by Buffalo police. Neither the team nor the NHL provided further details … The Islanders put goalie Jaroslav Halak on injured reserve (upper-body injury).
