Adam Wainwright pitched two-hit ball over six innings for his first victory in five months, Marcell Ozuna homered and the St. Louis Cardinals salvaged the finale of a four-game series with a 5-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night in St. Louis.

The Cardinals stopped a season-high four-game losing streak and moved into a tie for the second National League wild card with the Dodgers.

Wainwright (2-3), making his second start since missing almost four months because of right elbow inflammation, struck out a season-high nine while earning his first win since April 16.

"Us old guys can still play, can't we? A little bit," the 37-year-old Wainwright said. "The main thing for me tonight was to do what I did in my entire rehab performances. It was all about executing, making my pitches. That's probably the deepest lineup I've ever faced."

Carlos Martinez completed the four-hit shutout — one night after the Dodgers piled up 17 runs.

Yairo Munoz sparked a two-run fourth, reaching on a wild pitch after swinging and missing at strike three. Jedd Gyorko and Yadier Molina followed with RBI singles, chasing Dodgers starter Ross Stripling and giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.

Ozuna singled and scored on third baseman Justin Turner's fielding error in the sixth. Ozuna has a team-high 44 multihit games.

Cincinnati 2, Chicago 1: Scott Schebler homered on Jose Quintana's first pitch of the game and Phillip Ervin also went deep as the visiting Reds stopped a three-game losing streak and Chicago's three-game winning streak.

Washington 6, Atlanta 4: Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon hit two-run homers, and 19-year-old rookie Juan Soto added an RBI single in the ninth for the visiting Nationals.

Pittsburgh 3, Milwaukee 2: The host Brewers' rally fell short after Jesus Aguilar and Domingo Santana hit back-to-back home runs to begin the ninth inning.

Miami 6, Philadelphia 4: Peter O'Brien homered and drove in three runs, and the Marlins ended a five-game slide.

Colorado 3, San Francisco 2: Antonio Senzatela pitched shutout ball into the sixth inning and hit a two-run single for the Rockies in San Francisco.

American League

Tampa Bay 5, Oakland 4: Khris Davis hit a grand slam in the ninth inning, but the visiting Athletics finished a run short and remained a game behind the Yankees for the top wild-card spot. Eight Rays pitchers combined on a four-hitter.

Toronto 3, New York 2: The Yankees' Dellin Betances blew a one-run lead in the eighth inning, allowing hits to four of his first five batters.

Detroit 6, Cleveland 4: Jim Adduci homered and drove in a career-high four runs for the visiting Tigers, who beat an Indians team that rested several regulars after clinching the AL Central.

Baltimore 8, Chicago 4: Yonathan Villar and Adam Jones homered, and the host Orioles took control with a five-run first inning against Lucas Giolito. Their 43rd victory means the Orioles can't tie the major league record of 120 losses in a season, set by the 1962 Mets.

Los Angeles 4, Seattle 3: Kole Calhoun hit a two-run homer and Justin Upton homered in his third straight game as the host Angels avoided a four-game sweep.

Interleague

Houston 5, Arizona 4: Justin Verlander struck out 11 in seven solid innings and matched his career high for strikeouts in a season with 269 for the Astros.

Boston 4, N.Y. Mets 3: Andrew Benintendi hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the eighth inning for the Red Sox, but Boston outfielder Mookie Betts left the game after hurting his left side making a throw to home plate in the sixth inning. Betts said he will be OK for the start of a three-game series Tuesday against the Yankees; Boston's magic number for clinching the AL East is two.

San Diego 7, Texas 3: Rookie Francisco Mejia's grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning capped a five-run rally that gave the Padres a walkoff win.
