Three observations ...

• The Raiders were dysfunctional, to say the least, in the latter stages of Al Davis' life. But trading a first- and a second-round pick for Carson Palmer means Oakland is capable of making even bigger blunders without Al.

• LaDainian Tomlinson will get a ceremonial start Sunday when the Jets face LT's former team, the Chargers. Considering LT has carried the ball only 29 times this year, might his fresh legs be motivated vs. the Bolts?

• It seems way too early to be talking about giving Ryan Fitzpatrick a long-term deal worth an average of $10 million a year. But apparently the Bills don't think they can do any better at quarterback.

Two bold predictions ...

• It'll be a looooong time before another bold prediction includes the Vikings winning in Chicago.

• The Falcons will beat the Lions, sending Detroit to its second consecutive loss and second in a row at home. The postgame coaches handshake will go more smoothly, but doubts about the Lions will begin.
