Sunday Insider: Fourth and five

September 5, 2010 at 5:19AM

Three observations ... • Miffed that Ahmad Bradshaw has climbed over him on the Giants' depth chart, running back Brandon Jacobs said, "No one's your friend in this business. This is a cutthroat, backstabbing business." And a business that guaranteed Jacobs $13 million in a four-year extension last year.

• The 49ers went 4-0 in the preseason for the first time since 1992. Of course, 19 of the 37 teams that did the same since 1990 went on to miss the playoffs. The better news is QB Alex Smith looks comfortable and the offensive line is doing well with two rookie first-round draft picks starting at right tackle and left guard.

• The Carolina Panthers looked like a team with four unproven quarterbacks on the roster. In going 1-3 during the preseason, the Panthers scored exactly zero touchdowns offensively. "I think we'll be fine," starting quarterback Matt Moore said. If you say so.

... and two predictions • Lions rookie Ndamukong Suh will be fined much more than $7,500 the next time he grabs a quarterback by the facemask, wrenches his head and throws him to the ground.

• Unless Kurt Warner unretires, Cardinals backup QB Max Hall is sure to be a fan favorite this season.
