Subcontractors hired for Saints ballpark

Several important subcontractors have been hired by the builder of the new $63 million St. Paul Saints ballpark, including those responsible for electrical, mechanical and fire protection.

Minneapolis-based Ryan Co has hired Hunt Electric of St. Paul for the electrical work. The firm has done work at the new hotel at the Mall of America and the new Surly brewery in Minneapolis.

South St. Paul-based Schadegg Mechanical Inc.will be the park's mechanical contractor, which includes the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system and plumbing. The company has done work for he St. Paul Union Depot renovation, Treasure Island Resort and Casino, the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center, and the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

And Skyline Fire Protection in Maple Grove will be responsible for designing and building the park's fire protection system, including fire alarms and pumps, and a sprinkler system. The company is currently working on the renovation of the Schmidt Brewery in St. Paul, and has previously designed fire protection systems for the Walker Art Center, MacPhail Center for Music, Macalester College, and the University of St. Thomas.

All three companies have been hired as design-build subcontractors, which means they will design their part of the project and then build it.

"One of our goals for the Lowertown Ballpark is to always work with the best companies and Minnesota companies whenever possible," said Mark Maghrak, team leader for Ryan.Co., in a statement.

Construction of the Lowertown Ballpark will begin in spring 2014, with a grand opening expected the following spring.
