NAME YOUR BANGS

Like jeans and shoes, bangs are hardly one size fits all. Here is a fringe glossary to help you convey to your stylist what you want (or don't).

Blunt: Bangs that lie straight across the forehead -- like Liv Tyler, Nicki Minaj and Zooey Deschanel.

Sideswept: Fringe that swoops across half the forehead -- like Christina Hendricks, Cameron Diaz and Kirsten Dunst.

Brow-skimming: Longer bangs that cover the eyebrows -- like Florence Welch, Lea Michele and Nicole Richie.

Choppy: Intentionally messy, uneven bangs that are easily parted -- like Alexa Chung, Taylor Momsen and Ashlee Simpson.

Bumper: A once-popular pouf that looks as if there's a hot roller under your fringe -- like Janelle Monae, Carmen Miranda and Elvis Presley.

Wispy: Light and beachy -- like Mischa Barton, Hilary Duff and Penélope Cruz.

Baby: Short bangs that rest well above the eyebrows -- like Rooney Mara, Michelle Williams and Ginnifer Goodwin.

Pinup or V-shaped: Bangs that are longer in the center and increasingly shorter toward the temples -- like Bettie Page, Katy Perry and Beyoncé in the music video for "Telephone."

Shaved: Fringe that looks as if you took a razor to it -- like Lady Gaga.
