Opitz expands to Minnetonka Opitz Outlet has opened a store in Minnetonka. Regular customers at the venerable St. Louis Park location know that designer clothing and accessories in new condition get a 70 percent discount and those with a serious defect or flaw get slashed 90 percent at the Annex next door. Now Opitz has created a new category (80 percent off men's and women's clothing) for minor flaws such as stains or scuffs that will probably come out in the wash. (All flaws are mapped on a tag to indicate where they are.) The new store in a former Kmart (17501 Hwy. 7, Minnetonka, 952-937-7683) also has a large number of first-quality women's shoes at 70 percent off. Unlike the St. Louis Park store, returns are not allowed.
New men's clothing outlet Minneapolis isn't long on men's outlet stores. Fortunately, a new one, Scott James, just opened in Riverplace (43 SE. Main St., Suite 140, Mpls., 612-223-8979, www.scottjamesonline.com). Scott James clothing is designed by Scott Kuhlman, whose men's shirt stores saw a rapid rise and fall from 2005 to 2008. The line was sold at Scottjamesonline.com and specialty shops such as Elsworth in Minneapolis. It is traditional, almost preppie, with standard-cut collars instead of the wide, tall ones from seven years ago. Everything at the outlet is discounted 70 percent, including sport shirts ($22 to $28 after the discount, regularly $75 to $95), spring-weight cashmere sweaters ($49), corduroy pants ($33 to $37), outerwear jackets and overcoats ($58 to $88). All pieces are from previous seasons. There are no refunds, but some items can be returned for store credit.
Valleyfair discounts "Fair"-goers should have no trouble finding a discount to Valleyfair this year. Through May 28, get discounts on unlimited-entry passes. The Gold Season pass ($70 for all ages) includes free parking, the waterpark, ValleyScare and other discounts, good through Oct. 28. The Value Pass good through Labor Day is $60 ($75 after May 28) but does not include parking or ValleyScare. Passes can be purchased in person, online or at 952-445-6500.
For single admissions, adult tickets ($43) can be purchased for $8 off anytime at www.valleyfair.com. Ticket prices for kids and seniors ($20) are not subject to discounting. Cub Foods sells adult tickets at a $10 discount ($33) at its customer service counters. Restaurants that offer discount coupons include Subway ($10 off through June 15), Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Sonic ($8 off June 16 through July 15), Dairy Queen ($6 off July 16 to Aug. 19) and SuperAmerica ($6 off July 13 to Sept. 16). At the end of May, specially marked Pepsi cans will offer a $10 discount. Costco and Sam's Club are not selling Valleyfair tickets this year.
