MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota state trooper is recovering after his squad car was struck in a three-vehicle crash on an icy part of Interstate 94 in Minneapolis.

The State Patrol says an SUV was southbound on I-94 around 6:30 p.m. Friday when it spun out and hit a car, which slid backward across all lanes of traffic and struck the trooper's cruiser on the shoulder near Plymouth Avenue. The trooper had stopped there to handle another matter.

The trooper, 40-year-old Jared Sturgill, of Golden Valley, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Patrol says nobody else was injured and no alcohol was detected in any of the drivers.
