State Fair concertgoers return to show after lightning delay

September 1, 2013 at 3:15AM

Concertgoers at the sold-out State Fair grandstand were back in their seats Saturday night after being told to seek shelter from lightning.

Opening act Chance the Rapper was performing about 8 p.m. when the lightning kicked up right at end of his set.

About 15,000 people were in the grandstand for the show featuring Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

After a delay of an hour or so, State Fair officials advised via Twitter that Talib Kweli will go on at 9:15 p.m. for a 30-minute set, with Macklemore to follow.

A severe thunderstorm watch had been in effect at the time, but all metro-area storm advisories have expired.

The National Weather Service was reporting hail and 60-plus-mph winds as the storm blew in from the west, knocking down some tree limbs.
