Eastview, Benilde-St. Margaret's and Yellow Medicine East won championships Friday in the jazz competition of the state high school dance team tournament at Target Center.
Class 3A: Eastview won its second title, unseating defending champion Maple Grove. The Lightning won its other crown in 2000.
Class 2A: Benilde-St. Margaret's improved on last year's runner-up finish to take first place. It was the seventh title for the school, which also won in 1985, 1999, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
Class 1A: Yellow Medicine East won the championship for the second consecutive year. It's the school's sixth title.
How it works: Twelve teams in each class compete in a first round to determine six finalists, who dance again to determine the champion.
Up next: The tournament continues Saturday with competition among high kick teams in all three classes.
