'WAITING FOR GODOT'

Opening: The historic Hollywood Theater, shuttered since 1987, gets a new lease on life, however briefly, with Theatre Pro Rata's staging of Samuel Beckett's existential classic, "Waiting for Godot." Dave Gangler and James Rodriguez play Vladimir and Estragon, two men who wait patiently on a country road for Godot to appear. Ryan Ripley directs and designs the sets.

          'SABOTEUR'

          Opening: In 2006, intellectually provocative company Walking Shadow theater had a 3-D jigsaw puzzle and an oversized Sudoku in its fringe festival show, "1926 Pleasant." Its latest offering, "Saboteur," arises from a similar conceit. Theater executive director David Pisa created the story and the puzzle pieces for "Saboteur," a site-specific, audience-interactive mix of theater and video game. The narrative can move forward only after puzzles are solved in one of two alternating play spaces. Amy Rummenie directs a show that takes place at a secret, undisclosed location in northeast Minneapolis.
