          BILL T. JONES

Bill T. Jones is among the world's most celebrated contemporary choreographers. An innovator in styles ranging from modern dance to Broadway musicals, he has a perspective that continues to inform and transform the art of movement. The 2010 recipient of a Kennedy Center Honor returns to a local stage with the Walker Art Center-commissioned "Story/Time," an elegant blend of autobiographical storytelling and innovative dancing inspired by the legacies of composer John Cage and choreographer Merce Cunningham. An informal showing of the work last fall offered new insights into the singular creative process refined by Jones over his more than three decades in dance. -Caroline Palmer

                    REELING OVER LOVE

The Eclectic Edge Ensemble celebrates romance and movies with the return -- and revamp -- of "Reeling Over Love." Led by choreographer Karis Sloss, this 2009 audience favorite mashes up often satirical stories of tenderness and heartbreak with jazz-based dance theater, all set to a score performed live by local composers Josh Kramer and Brian Erickson. The act of finding the heart's desire in the movies may not always mirror real-life (or vice versa) but the evening proves that there's always plenty of inspiration to be drawn from the art of falling in love. -Caroline Palmer
