St. Paul police officers shot and injured a suspect on a highway near downtown on Sunday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m., General Motors alerted police about a stolen vehicle traveling on Interstate 94 toward St. Paul, according to a release from the St. Paul Police Department. The car company was able to slow the car remotely on the westbound I-94 ramp from Highway 52.
A man and woman fled from the vehicle on foot. The man, who had been driving, pointed a handgun at officers as he ran, St. Paul police said. Officers fired their service weapons at the man who was struck once in the leg, the police said.
The man was taken to Regions Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
The woman was apprehended uninjured.
No officers or bystanders were injured. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident. The St. Paul Police Department did not say how many officers were involved in the shooting. The release said the officers are on standard critical incident leave.
