Sunday: The 100-voice chorus will close VocalEssence's 45th season with "Tchaikovsky for Voices," singing alongside four college choirs. The program features Tchaikovsky's "The Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom," which is drawn from the Russian Orthodox Church. The composer wrote the piece in 1878. Choirs from Bethel, Gustavus, Luther and St. Thomas will bring the number of voices to 300 in the concert at Bethel University. (3 p.m. Sun., Benson Great Hall, 3900 Bethel Dr., Arden Hills, $20 and up, 612-371-5656 or www.vocalessence.org.)

This weekend: This company of playwrights who band together to produce each other's work will conclude the season with Jeannine Coulombe's new play, "Homegrown." Coulombe's theme explores how poverty and rural isolation stifle artistic opportunity and creative instincts. Children pore over a package of photographs that their deceased mother has left each of them. Ellen Fenster directs a cast including Jennifer Blagen, Miriam Schwartz and Matt Rein. (8 p.m. Fri.-Mon., ends May 3, Playwrights' Center, 2301 E. Franklin Av., Mpls., $18 or pay what you can, 800-838-3006 or www.brownpapertickets.com.)
