HICKS AT THE HELM

Thursday-Saturday: Sarah Hicks, above, hasn't exactly been invisible since her 2006 appointment as the Minnesota Orchestra's assistant conductor. Tokyo-born, Honolulu-reared, she leads numerous educational and outreach performances. But this week's intriguing program (with mid-20th-century concertos for orchestra by Rodion Shchedrin and Witold Lutoslawski framing works by Mozart and Copland that spotlight half a dozen wind players) marks her subscription-series debut. Musicians in the limelight include English horn player Marni Hougham and trumpeter Douglas C. Carlsen. (7:30 p.m. Thu., 8 p.m. Fri. Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall, Mpls. $25-$83. 612-371-5656, or www.minnesotaorchestra.org.)
