RIVER ROCKS MUSIC FESTIVAL

Friday-Saturday: For its second annual September shindig, the McNally Smith College of Music has come up with a new moniker, River Rocks Music Festival, and a new format, national names instead of strictly local stalwarts. It's easy to get excited about the reunion of local popsters Semisonic of "Closing Time" fame, the always terrific and provocative hip-hop band the Roots, festive Latin hip-hoppers Ozomatli, and the solo debut of Jakob Dylan, who has gone acoustic for his new CD, "Seeing Things." Also appearing are saxophone-accented jam-band O.A.R., Twin Cities favorite Mike Doughty, the enduring modern rockers Live, St. Paul's stellar hip-hop band Heiruspecs, and a host of musicians and teachers from McNally Smith. (4:30 p.m. Fri., 1 p.m. Sat. $25-$150. Harriet Island, St. Paul. 651-209-6799. www.riverrocksmusicfestival. com.)
