'JOURNEYS TO NOWHERE'

Ongoing: When the going gets hot, the hot get cool. The smart ones head to Walker Art Center, where icebergs and penguins are on parade in "Journeys to Nowhere: Selections From the Collection." Yep, the center has dusted off some rarely seen gems from its storage vaults, including a fantastically dreamy little vignette by Joseph Cornell and recently acquired photos of exotic glass flowers with a political twist by Christopher Williams. But the centerpiece is a room-sized film installation by Pierre Huyghe called "A Journey That Wasn't," above. In it the filmmaker and some pals set off to Antarctica in search of an albino penguin. Think white-on-white, in bitter cold. Back in New York, they restaged the adventure on an ice rink complete with faux icebergs and sculpted penguins plus a real 40-piece orchestra and Manhattan skyscrapers as backdrop. In his installation, all these bits collide to evoke an adventure of epic proportions. (11 a.m.-5 p.m. today, Tue.-Wed. and Fri.-Sat.; 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Thu. $6-$10; free after 5 p.m. Thu. Ends Dec. 7. 1750 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. 612-375-7600 or www.walkerart.org.)
