YES, THEY CAN
Today: Who says classical musicians can't move quickly enough to respond to the events of the day? Today's concert by the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota features the premiere of "While We Breathe, We Hope (Fanfare for Obama)" by Twin Cities composer Steve Heitzeg, whose work often engages social themes. The three-minute fanfare is scored for Hawaiian percussion, strings and piano; its text, excerpted from Obama's election-night speech in Chicago, will be spoken by Penumbra Theater's Lou Bellamy. Mozart, Schubert and more Heitzeg fill out the program. (4 p.m. today. First Lutheran Church, 1555 40th Av. NE., Columbia Heights. $15-$25. 651-450-0527 or www.chambermusic societymn.org.)
