Well the Big Bass Bonanza circuit isn't working out this year as I had hoped. A fun day on Lake Ida was had by catching a lot of bass, but the size wasn't there.

Despite both my partner and I getting out to practice on Tuesday and both having good practices, we still just couldn't put together a big fish bite.

I drop shotted a variety of plastic worms, using a 1/0 Trokar Drop Shot hook and 7'2" Wright & McGill Drop Shot rod has been my go to combination when fishing a drop shot in deep water. Looking for inside turns and good clean weedlines has been the key.

We also targeted bass in reeds and flipping creature baits proved more successful than a jig and 20 lb Seaguar TATSU gave me the strength and abrasion resistance to get the bass out of the heavy cover, but didn't spook the bass in the clear water. Establishing a pattern with in the reed pattern helped us eliminate section of reeds quickly and maximize the remaining amount of time we had to fish.

We ended up finishing in 25th with 16.23 lb's and with two events remaining our chances of making the TOC are slim so we'll be swinging for the fences at the next two events.

Here is the video recap from the top finishers.

On a high note, my boat is back and spending as much time on the water and here is a nice fish I got over the 4th of July. Here is a photo from nice 4th of July bass that hit a swim jig around shallow vegetation.
