Twins righthander Kenta Maeda, Indians righthander Shane Bieber and Blue Jays lefthander Hyun Jin-Ryu are the top three finalists for the American League Cy Young Award by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

The winner of each BBWAA award will be announced Nov. 11.

The finalists for AL Rookie of the Year are Astros righthander Cristian Javier and center fielders Kyle Lewis of the Mariners and Luis Robert of the White Sox. Phillies infielder Alec Bohm, Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth and Brewers reliever Devin Williams are the top finishers for the NL rookie award.

Cubs' Lester a big tipper

Jon Lester provided his supporters with some hydration and a weekend to remember. The Cubs All-Star lefthander, who became a free agent Friday, spent more than $47,000 on Miller Lites at four Division Street bars for fans last weekend.

Lester tweeted his beer tabs from sales at The Lodge, Shenanigan's, Butch McGuire's and Hopsmith, and expressed his appreciation for the support of the fans during his six seasons.

Lester's bill included $32,606.46 in beer sales and a $14,504.92 tip, which is 34% and corresponds with his Cubs jersey number.

Lester received a $10 million buyout, but still wants to pitch for the Cubs. He needs seven victories to reach the 200 mark for his storied career.

Michigan coach sidelined

Michigan safeties coach Bob Shoop is limited to working with the team remotely and is not assisting on the field with the 23rd-ranked Wolverines.

The school's athletic department said it would not provide any more details because of privacy rules.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh also declined to comment on Shoop's situation. Harbaugh said Aashon Larkins, the team's special teams analyst, has taken over Shoop's on-field duties in the secondary. Larkins previously was an assistant coach at Bethune-Cookman.

• The Southeastern Conference docked Florida coach Dan Mullen $25,000 for his role in a benches-clearing brawl against the Tigers on Saturday night.

The league also issued half-game suspensions for Missouri linebacker Chad Bailey, offensive lineman Dylan Spencer and defensive lineman Markell Utsey. Each of them will sit out the first half of Missouri's next game, against No. 5 Georgia on Nov. 14.

Florida defensive lineman Zach Carter and linebacker Antwuan Powell, both ejected from the game for fighting, will be suspended for the first half against the Bulldogs next week in Jacksonville. NCAA fighting rules mandate an automatic half-game suspension for the ensuing game.
