Sports briefly: Thunder's not done yet, trades Jerami Grant to Nuggets for another first-round pick

July 9, 2019 at 4:13AM

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded forward Jerami Grant to the Denver Nuggets for yet another first-round pick Monday.

The Nuggets acquired the 25-year-old power forward for a 2020 first-round pick.

It's an additional first-round selection for the Thunder, which is in line for at least four more assuming the blockbuster deal that sends Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers goes through. It would also give Oklahoma City the rights to as many as 13 first-round picks over the next seven drafts.

The 6-9, 220-pound Grant is coming off a breakout season in which he set career highs in points (13.6) and rebounds (5.2). He shot 49.7% from the field and 39.2% from three-point range.

Lakers get Avery Bradley

The Lakers and Avery Bradley have a deal in place for the free-agent guard to sign a two-year deal for $9.7 million once he clears waivers, according to his agent, Bill Duffy. Duffy said that Bradley, who was waived by the Grizzlies on Saturday, cleared waivers Monday, allowing the 6-foot-2 defensive specialist to join a Lakers team that now has seven guards with his addition.

Duffy said the second year of Bradley's deal, which will be the Lakers' room exception, is a player option.

Over the course of his nine-year career, the 28-year-old Bradley has made his mark as an outstanding one-on-one defender. He was named to the NBA's first-team defensive team in 2016 and the second team in 2013, both times while playing for the Celtics.

He started 49 games last season with the Clippers, averaging 8.2 points per game and shooting 33.7% from three-point range.

After Bradley was dealt to Memphis at the trade deadline, he averaged 16.1 points in 14 starts and shot 38.4% from three-point range. He is a career 38.4% three-point shooter.

Hawks add Jabari Parker

Atlanta agreed to a two-year contract with Jabari Parker, the second overall pick in the 2014 draft out of Duke. The deal is for two years and $13 million, with the second year a player option.

The 6-8, 245-pounder will see playing time at both small and power forward for the Hawks.

Parker, 24, has career averages of 15.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He averaged 14.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists last season between the Bulls and Wizards. Parker has battled injuries that have limited him to an average of 49 games per season. His second season with the Bucks he played a career-high 76 games.

Alaphilippe wins third stage of Tour

Julian Alaphilippe won Stage 3 of the Tour de France and took the yellow jersey with a sparkling ride into the Champagne town of Epernay.

The French rider left the chasing pack for dead with a fierce burst of acceleration on a short sharp climb amid the Champagne vineyards. He gritted his teeth as he rode alone over the last 16 kilometers (10 miles), up Epernay's cobbled Champagne Avenue, and the lung-busting uphill finish.

It was Alaphilippe's first stage victory at this Tour and third in his career. He also won two stages on the Tour last year. The previous race leader, Mike Teunissen, couldn't keep up with the main pack in the final section of sharp hills.
