Shay Knighten hit a three-run homer in the top of the 17th inning to lead Oklahoma to a 7-5 victory over Florida on Monday night in Game 1 of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
It was the longest game in WCWS history. Game 2 of the best-of-three series is Tuesday night.
Florida twice extended the game when it was down to its final strike. It scored once in the seventh to make it 2-2 and twice in the 12th after the Sooners went ahead 4-2 in the top of the inning.
The Gators also did not go quietly in the 17th, leaving the tying runners on base.
Knighten's blast, off star Gators pitcher Kelly Barnhill, was the last of the defending champions' three home runs.
Florida is playing for its third national title in four years.
All four pitchers in the game, two for each team, threw more than 100 pitches.
There were 40 strikeouts, including 26 by Sooners batters.
