Sports briefly: Kings place Gaborik on injured reserve

The Kings placed former Wild right wing Marian Gaborik on injured reserve because of a broken right foot. Gaborik was struck by teammate Mats Zuccarello's shot while they were playing for Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey last month.

Gaborik is expected to be sidelined for at least eight weeks. The 34-year-old Gaborik is making more than $6 million in the third season of a seven-year, $34.125 million contract through 2021. He scored just 22 points in 54 games last season, the lowest-scoring performance of his 15-year NHL career.

... The Ducks placed former Wild defenseman Clayton Stoner on waivers for demotion to the minors. ... The Lightning plan to honor franchise scoring leader Martin St. Louis by retiring the No. 26 he wore over 13 seasons with the team he helped win its only Stanley Cup championship in 2004. ...Hall of Fame defenseman Mark Howe and East Coast Hockey League co-founder Pat Kelly are this year's Lester Patrick Trophy winners for outstanding service to hockey in the United States.

Yokomine leads

Sakura Yokomine bogeyed the final hole for a 5-under 67 and a one-stroke lead over Brooke Henderson, Paula Creamer and Amy Yang in the LPGA Taiwan Championship.

Ha Na Jang, Ai Miyazato, Lee-Anne Pace, Beatriz Recari and Hee Young Park shot 69.

... Jason Day is skipping the Australian Open and World Cup of Golf in his home country because of the back injury that forced him to withdraw during the final two PGA Tour events of the season.

Harvick wins pole

Kevin Harvick won the pole for the opening race of the second round of NASCAR's playoffs. Harvick turned a lap at 196.029 mph to earn the top starting spot Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He edged Alex Bowman, the replacement driver for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Chase Elliott qualified third and Kyle Busch fourth.
