Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will be the next football coach at Florida Atlantic, according to a source.

Kiffin, who has spent the past three seasons at Alabama, will succeed Charlie Partridge, who was fired after three consecutive 3-9 seasons with FAU. Fox Sports reported the deal was a five-year contract.

Kiffin will remain Alabama's offensive coordinator through their playoff run, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said Monday.

"We think this is a wonderful opportunity for him to be a head coach again," Saban said. "I think FAU has selected someone that is going to do a great job for them. He's done a great job here molding our offensive players to what they could do to have the best chance to be successful. I think that's always something that's very telling about the quality of a coach."

FAU becomes Kiffin's fourth head coaching stop, following tenures with the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee and USC.

Kiffin went 5-15 in two seasons with the NFL's Raiders and 7-6 in a lone season at Tennessee. He departed Knoxville to take the USC job. Kiffin went 8-5 and 10-2 in his first two seasons in Los Angeles before his preseason No. 1-ranked Trojans went 7-6 in his third season. He was fired after five games in 2013.

... Kansas gave second-year head coach David Beaty a two-year contract extension that takes his salary to $1.6 million in the first year with an additional $100,000 each succeeding year.
