A high-octane racing game that is thin in content but thick in mayhem, "Split/Second" likely will not win over seasoned gamers, but it's perfect for racers looking for a quick fix. Racers make smooth moves such as drifting or timed runs to earn energy. Then at key moments, that energy can unleash a Power Play, a cinematic moment in which massive destruction is dealt to opponents. For instance, a helicopter drops military weaponry on opponents. The visuals are fun and the results enjoyable, but once you've seen them all, that's it. "Split/Second" doesn't have the depth or pedigree of other notable franchises such as "Need for Speed" or "Motorstorm," which have similar premises. But for gamers revved up for some racing fun to conquer in a weekend, it takes the checkered flag.
