Speed and alcohol might have played a role in a one-vehicle fatal accident Wednesday night in northern Minnesota, the State Patrol said.

Arvid Simonson, 58, was traveling west on Aitkin County Rd. 2 when he lost control and his vehicle went off the road just after 8 p.m. It rolled several times, and Simonson was ejected, the patrol said.

Simonson, of McGrath, Minn., was alone in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the crash site, on the Aitkin-Pine County line.

Simonson was not wearing a seat belt, and tests showed alcohol in his system, the patrol said.
