High school golfers south of the Minnesota River are playing at a high level.

Red Wing senior Stephanie Herzog, the girls' No. 1-ranked individual in Class 3A, shot a 1-under-par 71 to win the 16-team Elk River Invitational, and leading the No. 2-rated Wingers to the team title.

Herzog has had two outings at 4-under 66 and another at 3-under 67 on the Wingers' home course of Mississippi National Golf Links.

On the boys' side, Hastings junior Nick Dittrich recorded a 3-under 69 to take first place in Metro East Conference play at Oak Glen Golf Course.

Also in the conference, two St. Thomas Academy golfers turned in back-to-back medalist rounds. Freshman Andrew Boemer shot a 1-under 35 at Mendakota Country Club while sophomore Brady Arnett fired a 4-under 32 at Oak Marsh Golf Club.

Changes for Trojans

At least four teams at New Prague will take on a new look on the coaching front next year.

Jake Norby has been promoted to head coach of the football team after serving as the offensive coordinator the past four years, pending approval of the school board.

New Prague also hired Gospel Kordah as its boys' soccer coach in April. He replaces Jonathan Hopke, who was the initial coach of the program when it started in 2009.

Longtime girls' basketball coach Ron Gunderson has requested a one-year leave of absence for the 2017-18 season. He has guided the Trojans since 1976-77 and has accumulated 684 career victories.

The Trojans also are seeking a girls' hockey coach.
