The Sounds of Blackness have been nominated for two NAACP Image Awards: Outstanding duo/group/collaboration and outstanding world music, it was announced Thursday.
That brings the mighty Sounds total of Image Awards nominations to 10. But they've never won one. However, the Twin Cities choir has collected three Grammy Awards.
In the group/etc. category, the Sounds are vying against the Roots, Boyz II Men, Mary J. Blige with Drake and Cee Lo Green with Melanie Fiona.
The Sounds weren't the only Image Awards nominees with Minnesota connections.
"Prince: Behind the Symbol," which was shown on the Africa Channel, is a finalist for outstanding variety series or special. It featured exclusive footage from his 21-night stand in Los Angeles as part of his Welcome 2 America tour.
Adele's "Someone Like You" is nominated for outstanding song; it was cowritten by Minneapolis songwriter Dan Wilson.
The 43rd annual Image Awards will be presented Feb. 17 on KARE Ch. 11.
