At right, a group of snowshoers took advantage of relatively balmy weather on the first day of 2015 at a more sedate pace, as part of a two-hour hike along the Mississippi starting from the Three Rivers Park District Carl Kroening Interpretive Center in Minneapolis. The district offers more snowshoeing hikes and other activities all winter. Go to www.threeriversparks.org for more information.

The less hardy may want to schedule upcoming outings only through Saturday, however, as the forecast for Sunday through Thursday is for highs mostly in the single digits.
