So it turns out that interweb report from Total Frat Move is correct. Per Richard Deitsch of SI.com, Christian Ponder and ESPN's Samantha Steele are engaged -- confirmed by Steele. The two have only been confirmed to be dating for about 6 weeks, but hey, that's how love works sometimes.
